Offshore wind structures combine three of the hardest conditions a coating system can face: permanent salt-laden atmosphere, mechanical load and flexing, and an inspection window that may only open once every few years. A coating failure is not a maintenance item — it is a vessel campaign.
The system therefore has to be specified for a defined target life, not for a colour and a thickness. That means a zinc-based primer for cathodic protection, an MIO or high-build epoxy intermediate for barrier and UV performance, and a topcoat chosen for colour retention and low surface energy in a marine atmosphere.
