The Wenchang field cluster comprises several wellhead platforms — Wenchang 13-1/13-2, 19-1D and 16-2 among them — with jackets 128–160 m tall. The jackets are specified zone by zone (immersed, splash and atmospheric) using epoxy zinc-rich or inorganic zinc primers, high-build epoxy intermediates and high-solids topcoats. Project overview
The Wenchang field cluster lies in the western South China Sea. Several wellhead platforms — Wenchang 13-1/13-2, 19-1D and 16-2 among them — have been built over time, with jackets 128–160 m tall in an eight-leg light jacket and multi-skirt-pile configuration. The project is documented in Jotun's Anti-Corrosion Coating Solutions for Offshore Structures.
Corrosion-protection challenges
- The South China Sea combines high temperature, high humidity, heavy salt spray and strong UV — demanding high weatherability from topcoats;
- The splash zone takes continuous wave impact and is the focus and difficulty of platform corrosion protection;
- The jacket's mud-line section and splash zone require separately designed coating systems.
